Flixborough 1974 Memories – Derek Sheldon
On the afternoon of Saturday 1st June 1974, the Nypro chemical plant at Flixborough was destroyed by a catastrophic explosion and fire.
28 men died, and many people, on-site or at some distance, were injured.
One of the features of the plant was that the control room, amenities and laboratories were situated in the very centre of the works. This was convenient for working but gave no thought to the safety of the men in the event of serious danger.
On the 50th Anniversary of the Flixborough Disaster
a poem by Derek Sheldon.
