Bayeux Around Britain

Following a historic agreement with France, the Bayeux Tapestry can be seen on display at the British Museum between 10 September 2026 and 11 July 2027. This magnificent 70-metre-long piece of embroidery tells the story of the Norman Conquest, culminating with William the Conqueror’s victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The British Museum’s exhibition marks the first time the Tapestry has returned to England since it was made almost 1,000 years ago.

North Lincolnshire Museum is pleased to be taking part in the British Museum’s national partnership scheme, Bayeux Around Britain. This exhibition uses videos, interpretation panels and images supplied by the British Museum to bring the Tapestry experience to North Lincolnshire and to tell its story. In addition, we will be examining local sites and archaeological remains which reveal the effects of the Norman Conquest on our area.
