Museum Makers Choice – Pye 1220 Stereogram

As part of the Dynamic Collections: Documenting Northern Lincolnshire’s History project, a team of volunteers have been documenting and researching the collections. As well as being a member of the Museum Makers programme, volunteer Tyler is a Dynamic Collections project participant. Inspired by her interest in music, Tyler has been researching the Pye 1220 stereogram.

Music consoles such as the Pye 1220 stereogram were a popular feature in homes in the 1950s and 1960s. The stereogram that forms part of the 1960s living room display at the museum was enjoyed by a couple from Scunthorpe and was donated to the museum in 2008. It combines a radio, a record player, and even includes a section for storing records.

In this video, volunteer Tyler takes a closer look at the Pye 1220 Stereogram and considers how our experience of listening to music has changed over the decades.
