Salim C. Wilson, also known as Hatashil Matha Kathish, was originally from Sudan. His father was the chief of a Dinka tribe before their settlement was attacked and Salim/Hatashil was enslaved. He became an abolitionist campaigner, preacher, author and grocer who lived in Scunthorpe from 1911.
