Museum Makers Choice – The Teleosaurus
During the Jurassic period, the area that is now North Lincolnshire was beneath a shallow sea. The Kimmeridge Clay is a type of rock formed from the Middle Jurassic seabed. Fossils formed from the creatures that swam in that sea can be found in the Kimmeridge Clay. One such creature who lived in the Middle Jurassic was the Teleosaurus. The Teleosaurus was a marine reptile from the same family as crocodiles.
In this film Museum Maker, Nathan Kynman, takes a closer look at a Teleosaurus fossil found at South Ferriby. The fossil can be seen on display in the Jurassic Sea gallery.
